Direct Ferries
Having travelled back and forth between France and the UK many times, we find that Direct Ferries are the best option for booking your ferry.
We often take the Portsmouth - Caen overnight ferry (8 hours) and hire a cabin to get our heads down and break up the journey. The drive from Caen to us is approximately 5 hours on toll roads and about 6 1/2 hours avoiding tolls.
Dover - Calais is a shorter crossing at approximately 1 1/2 hours.
Driving time is approximately 7 hours using toll roads and 8 1/2 hours avoiding tolls.
Euro Tunnel
Not everyone's cup of tea but the fastest crossing at about 30/40 minutes.
The travel time to us is very similar to the Calais trip at 7 - 9 hours
